Lesson Time
Each lesson consists of technique, theory time, review of pieces/parts learned the prior week, and time learning new pieces/parts. Lessons are offered year round. We want to make learning music a fun experience for all students.
Theory
Theory is an important part of learning any instrument. Understanding the theory behind each piece helps improve skills. Theory encompasses everything from learning how to write music to learning symbols and words to better understand how to play a piece.
Recitals
Each year there will be 2 performances where students dress up and perform for family and friends. After each performance, a reception will be held, where food and drink are provided. The first performance is a Christmas/Holiday performance. This performance is a more casual, fun experience for the students. Holiday music is performed and everyone can dress up in ugly sweaters and/or Santa hats/reindeer antler headbands. The second performance will be at the end of the school year. Students will dress in formal attire and perform their pieces memorized for family and friends.
Music
Students will learn a range of different pieces which include Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary pieces. While it is important for students to learn technical pieces, it is also important to play fun pieces. Students will have numerous opportunities to pick songs/pieces that they would like to learn at their skill level.
Practice
Homework will be assigned each week. Practicing is key to advancing. Assignments will be, written down and sent with the student, as well as in the student portal. Homework can be technique, theory, pieces, and/or special instructions. The amount of practice needed each week depends on different factors like age and skill level.
